GRADE 11 MATHEMATICS, University Prep
Course Code: MCR3U
Prerequisite: Grade 10 Mathematics, Academic (MPM2D)
Course Description:
Welcome to MCR3U! This course is designed to increase your mathematic literacy and prepare you for grade 12 mathematics. This course introduces the mathematical concept of functions by extending your previous exposure to linear and quadratic relations. You will investigate properties of discrete and continuous functions, including trigonometric and exponential functions; represent functions numerically, algebraically, and graphically, solve problems involving applications of functions; investigate inverse functions; and develop facility in determining equivalent algebraic expressions. You will reason mathematically and communicate your thinking as you solve multi-step problems.
UNITS OF STUDY AND APPROXIMATE TIME FOR COMPLETION:
- Characteristics of Functions ~ 30 hrs
- Exponential Functions ~ 20 hrs.
- Trigonometric Functions ~ 30 hrs.
- Discrete Functions and Financial Applications ~ 25 hrs.
- Review and Final Exam ~ 5 hrs
